Faking of the Implicit Association Test Is Statistically Detectable and Partly Correctable.Dario Cvencek, Anthony S. Brown, Nicola S. Gray & Robert J. Snowden - unknown
Male and female participants were instructed to produce an altered response pattern on an Implicit Association Test measure of gender identity by slowing performance in trials requiring the same response to stimuli designating own gender and self. Participants’ faking success was found to be predictable by a measure of slowing relative to unfaked performances. This combined task slowing (CTS) indicator was then applied in reanalyses of three experiments from other laboratories, two involving instructed faking and one involving possibly motivated faking. (...)

Automatic processing of emotional images and psychopathic personality traits.Robert J. Snowden, Altea Frongillo Juric, Robyn Leach, Aimee McKinnon & Nicola S. Gray - 2022 - Cognition and Emotion 36 (5):821-835.
Psychopathy is associated with a deficit in affective processes and might be reflected in the inability to extract the emotional content of a stimulus. Across two experiments, we measured the interference effect from emotional images that were irrelevant to the processing of simultaneous target stimuli and examined if this interference was moderated by psychometrically defined traits of psychopathy. In Experiment 1, we showed this emotional distraction effect was reduced as a function of psychopathic traits related to cold-heartedness and occurred for (...)

Playing with machines: Using machine learning to understand automated copyright enforcement at scale.Nicolas P. Suzor & Joanne E. Gray - 2020 - Big Data and Society 7 (1).
This article presents the results of methodological experimentation that utilises machine learning to investigate automated copyright enforcement on YouTube. Using a dataset of 76.7 million YouTube videos, we explore how digital and computational methods can be leveraged to better understand content moderation and copyright enforcement at a large scale. We used the BERT language model to train a machine learning classifier to identify videos in categories that reflect ongoing controversies in copyright takedowns. We use this to explore, in a granular way, (...)

The cosmicity of the sigh resides in its profound negative singularity. Moving via endless auto-releasement, it achieves the remote. “ Oltre la spera che piú larga gira / passa ’l sospiro ch’esce del mio core ” [Beyond the sphere that circles widest / (...)

Motion and representation: the language of human movement.Nicolás Salazar Sutil - 2015 - Cambridge, Massachusetts: MIT Press.
An examination of the ways human movement can be represented as a formal language and how this language can be mediated technologically. In Motion and Representation, Nicolás Salazar Sutil considers the representation of human motion through languages of movement and technological mediation. He argues that technology transforms the representation of movement and that representation in turn transforms the way we move and what we understand to be movement. Humans communicate through movement, physically and mentally. To record and capture integrated movement (...)

Doctrinal de antropología.Nicolás Salmerón Y. Alonso - 2009 - Madrid: Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas. Edited by Antonio Heredia Soriano.

Discussing such questions as" How long has philosophy been felt and understood as a far away oasis to which only important intellectuals and scholars can have access? What would happen if we prove that philosophy is nothing different than daily life?, "this book is a representative part of the great contribution of a prominent Colombian philosopher to the thought of the 20th century. A Two-Component Compliance and Ethics Program Model: An Empirical Application to Chilean Corporations. [REVIEW]Nicolas S. Majluf & Carolina M. Navarrete - 2011 - Journal of Business Ethics 100 (4):567 - 579.
The rise of ethical scandals in the business world urged corporations to allocate time and resources to emphasize the ethical behavior of their managers and employees. The Model of Ethical Behavior in this article has three main assumptions: (1) the institutionalization of a Compliance and Ethics Program Model is done in terms of just two components: one Explicit and the other Implicit, (2) both components have a significant and direct influence over the ethical behavior of employees, which is represented in (...)

Beiträge zu Leibniz' Rezeption der Aristotelischen Logik und Metaphysik.Juan A. Nicolás & Niels Öffenberger (eds.) - 2016 - Hildesheim: Georg Olms Verlag.

  46. Dimensions of Animal Consciousness.Jonathan Birch, Alexandra K. Schnell & Nicola S. Clayton - 2020 - Trends in Cognitive Sciences 24 (10):789-801.
How does consciousness vary across the animal kingdom? Are some animals ‘more conscious’ than others? This article presents a multidimensional framework for understanding interspecies variation in states of consciousness. The framework distinguishes five key dimensions of variation: perceptual richness, evaluative richness, integration at a time, integration across time, and self-consciousness. For each dimension, existing experiments that bear on it are reviewed and future experiments are suggested. By assessing a given species against each dimension, we can construct a consciousness profile for (...)

Comment on Developments in Trait Emotional Intelligence Research: A Broad Perspective on Trait Emotional Intelligence.John M. Malouff & Nicola S. Schutte - 2016 - Emotion Review 8 (4):343-344.
Petrides et al. provide a comprehensive overview of research findings relating to trait emotional intelligence. The bulk of findings indicate that trait emotional intelligence is of benefit in a variety of realms, including clinical, health, social, educational, and organizational. Trait emotional intelligence has generally been studied as a quality of individuals. Conceptualizing and studying trait emotional intelligence at a systems level extends the construct and creates a foundation for additional applications and benefits. Systems can include couples, groups, societies, and human–artificial (...)

    Imaginative scrub-jays, causal rooks, and a liberal application of occam's aftershave.Nathan J. Emery & Nicola S. Clayton - 2008 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 31 (2):134-135.
We address the claim that nonhuman animals do not represent unobservable states, based on studies of physical cognition by rooks and social cognition by scrub-jays. In both cases, the most parsimonious explanation for the results is counter to the reinterpretation hypothesis. We suggest that imagination and prospection can be investigated in animals and included in models of cognitive architecture.
